Parenting can be difficult when trying to balance daily life with family and work, and it can be even more difficult for your child when issues such as bullying, ADHD, anxiety, or depression interfere with that balance. Child therapy can teach your child to cope with these diagnoses and life stressors and make life easier for your child and family. Parent consultations are offered to assist your child in their progress and can be helpful in making your home less stressful and run smoother.
What is Child therapy like?
Therapy for children can be fun and meaningful. Most sessions with children will include learning more about themselves, their thoughts, emotions, behaviors, and how to manage them with the appropriate coping skills. Sessions typically include playing a game, drawing pictures, or coloring to practice the skills that are learned and build a good relationship between child and therapist. Parents are encouraged to continue communicating with the therapist through the process and are kept well-informed with the focus and progress of treatment.
We strive to provide collaborative and personalized treatment based on each specific situation, child and family culture. We may use a variety of treatments and strategies in therapy with your child, including but not limited to the following.
- Cognitive-Behavioral Therapy (CBT)
- Trauma-Focused CBT (TF-CBT)
- Cognitive Therapy
- Art Therapy
- Psychodynamic Therapy
- Solution Focused
- Behavioral Management
- Parental Consultations
EEG Biofeedback, or Neurofeedback, is offered at San Diego Center for Neurofeedback, APPC. Neurofeedback can help any areas where the brain or body are not functioning appropriately, efficiently, or is dysregulated. This includes issues such as anxiety, depression, ADD/ADHD, PTSD, migraines, sleep, epilepsy, insomnia, bruxism, allergies, peak performance, ASD, and much more. Neurofeedback is highly recommended for the physiological symptoms of ADHD.

Divorce or separation can be a challenging time and children may need to adjust to the changes. Counseling can give extra support and assistance with confusing feelings for your child or children during this time to navigate family changes and remain healthy and balanced. Typically both parents with joint legal custody will need to consent to the child or children's treatment prior to the start of treatment. For current custody issues, it's recommended that children see therapists who specialize in custody arrangements and/or court procedures.
