Supervised by Olivia York, LMFT
My name is Malaika Harris and I am a registered Associate Marriage and Family Therapist (AMFT # 143592), supervised by Olivia York, LMFT (LMFT140939). I have a Master’s in Counseling Psychology from National University and a B.A. in Africana Studies from San Francisco State University. I value my role as clinician and bring a genuine curiosity to my client’s perspective, culture and experience. My goal is to foster an environment that is caring and free of judgement where my client can build skills and gain insight to meet their goals. I am committed to honoring each person’s values, identity, and experience by working collaboratively alongside the individual or family. I believe in the ability for each person to gain meaningful change and growth in their lives while utilizing the strengths they already hold.
Clinical Experience
My clinical experience includes working with diverse populations; children, teens, families, survivors of domestic violence and members of the LGBTQ community. I have assisted individuals dealing with depression, anxiety, grief and loss, trauma, and a variety of difficult life transitions. I blend several different therapeutic modalities depending on each client’s needs which may include; Cognitive Behavioral Therapy (CBT), Client Centered, Narrative Therapy, Acceptance and Commitment Therapy (ACT), Dialectical Behavior Therapy (DBT), Play Therapy, Family Systems and Solution Focused.
I served in the Peace Corps, living in Uganda, where I helped develop women’s peer support groups and co-led community health prevention and education programs for new and expectant mothers. My work abroad further deepened my belief in community connection and healing. When I am not working, I enjoy exploring new cultures, hiking and traveling. I would be honored to support you and your family in the process towards your personal goals.
